Hair Supplements
Dietary supplements (vitamins, minerals, herbs) that some believe will reduce hair loss and promote healthy hair regrowth.

Natrecia - a natural dietary supplement formulated by Dr. Razack for treating androgenic alopecia or benign prostate enlargement. Includes Saw Palmetto Extract; Beta Sitosterol; Rye Pollen Extract; Pumpkin Seed Extract; Lycopene; Zinc; Vitamin B6; Phosphorus; Calcium etc.

Vendor: Dr. Razack

DHT Antagonist
Products that inhibit 5-alpha reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. DHT stands for dehydrotestosterone which many believe is the main cause for androgenetic alopecia.

Crinagen (5% azelaic acid + zinc + B6 + Grape Seed Extract et al) - azelaic acid can effect up to 90% DHT inhibition according to a study reported in the British Journal of Dermatology.
Vendor: Dr. Razack

Zinc Oxide - One of the core treatments in Waseda's regimen. Numerous confirmed its effectiveness in generating vellus hairs. Key ingredients are Zinc Oxide powder, Boric Acid or Ascorbic Acid, Corn Starch & water. This product has been used by many who confirmed that vellus hairs appear in a relatively short period of time. Homemade

S-Maltoside - A topical herbal treatment that functions as both an DHT inhibitor as well as a hair growth stimulant. Waseda compares this agent to using both Propecia and Topical Minoxidil at the same time. Has been shown to generate terminal hairs in studies. This product is currently only available from Pola in Japan and marketed under the name GSS - Growing Short S.

Bayberry - Bayberry (Myrica Rubra - Oriental / Myrica Cerifera - Western) is a potent DHT inhibitor. According to the researcher of bayberry, Dr. Matsuda. "Extracting 1g bayberry bark root with 5ml 50% ethanol solution, and putting 1/10 of the solution on the target. The INHIBITING RATE OF DHT was 80.7%." Bayberry is dose dependent and has few known side effects. Waseda recommends adding Bayberry for a more potent formula of Morehairin

Anti-inflammatory
Inflammation such as seborrhoeic dermatitis is one of the most common causes for hair loss. Scalp inflammation can also be caused by long term use of propylene glycol and alcohol based products such as topical minoxidil.

Emu Oil - nature's anti-inflammatory agent for hair, skin and scalp with potential for enhancing hair growth.
Vendor:
HairMedics

Tea Tree Oil - Anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial topical agent. Gentle for the scalp and yet strong enough to kill ringworm, head lice and even stubborn bacteria such as staphylococcus.
Vendor: Dr. Razack

Licorice - Licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) is a sweet herb that possesses significant anti-inflammatory properties – It is  indispensable for Morehairin and highly recommended for Souhakuhi. You can even add licorice extract to topical minoxidil. - Homemade

Hair Growth Stimulant
Products that many believe will stimulate existing hair growth. Some products work by enhancing cells and vascular proliferation while others may prolong the anagen phase of hair cycle.

Procyanidin/GSE/Morehairin -  Topical extract from apples or grape seed. Substantiated by clinical studies to be a potent hair growth stimulant. Waseda indicated that this agent switches vellus hairs to terminal hairs for him.
Vendors: Dr. Razack | Homemade

Souhakuhi - A topical herbal extract that has the ability to shorten telogen (shedding) phase of the hair cycle and work as a hair growth stimulant. Key ingredients include Mulberry Bark Root, Kanzo, Shik on, and Ethyl Alcohol (or Vodka). - (Homemade)

Senburi - Original Mohkatsurin includes this herb. It is a special herb commonly available in Japan and has been traditionally used for alopecia areata. Almost all hair loss treatments in Japan contain Senburi. Waseda believes that Senburi may work by stimulating dermal papillae cells division and by improving blood circulation.

PKC & TNF-alpha inhibitor
Products that target the mitochondria and serve to prevent hair loss.

Amashiso -  Waseda's most comprehensive analysis on the mechanisms of hair loss and his explanation of Amashiso as a potent PKC as well as TNF-alpha inhibitor which serves to be one of the most effective prevention for hair loss. This section is a MUST READ for anyone who would like to see substantive clinical studies behind Waseda's formulas.

Androgen Receptor Blocker
These compounds block the pathway of androgens by competitively binding to androgen receptor sites in cells and tissues and thereby inhibiting the harmful effects of androgens on hair cells.

Topical Fina-Spiro - According to Waseda, this Fina-Spiro topical anti-androgen cream when used in conjunction with Bayberry extract is probably the strongest and most potent in the world. - Homemade.

All Natural & Supplements:  Laminaria Extract Increases Outer Root Sheath Cell Growth

Recently, stem cells discovered in the bulge region of the outer root sheath (ORS) are found to be able to induce the anagen phase in the hair follicle cycle. In an attempt to research for growth-promoting agents for the ORS cells, some studied the effect of various botanical extracts on the growth of cultured human hair follicles. Among the studies conducted, Laminaria angustata extract was found to be able to increase the ORS cell growth. Further, hair-growth in the shaved skin of C3H mice was also promoted by the topical application of the extract.

All Natural & Supplements: Oxicell: Liposomes Based Glutathione (GSH) and Superoxide Dismutases (SOD).

Superoxide dismutases (SOD) are enzymes which destroy or neutralize superoxide free radicals and are reported to be beneficial for hairloss. Excellent info on SOD can be found at http://www.phoenixlongevity.com/
sod.html. Glutathione (GSH), on the other hand, is a component of the defense system, synthesized mainly by photosynthesis. Recent study (http://abstracts.aspb.org/pb2003/
public/P44/0727.html ) suggest that GSH has an indirect effect on hair root formation via its effect on CPC.

Here’s an excerpt about the new product OXICELL: "OXICELL represents a significant breakthrough in the field of natural medicine, particularly in the area of antioxidant supplementation. OXICELL is a metabolic cream that transports a stabilized form of glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) into the bloodstream via transdermal liposomal delivery methods. The plasma markers of GSH and SOD are not raised when these are supplied orally; therefore, effective transport into the bloodstream via liposomal delivery as found in OXICELL is preferential. The transdermal method of delivery, known as liposomal delivery, is one in which lipid spheres called liposomes surround GSH and SOD, transporting it through the skin until it reaches the blood supply"

All Natural & Supplements:  Protandim to be Released Feb 2005 ! If you believe that anti-oxidants can help fight hairloss, you may want to look into the Feb 2005 release of Protandim.  According to the distributor, this product has been demonstrated to decrease oxidation by as much as 60% in humans in just the first 30 days of intake. Protandim is not an antioxidant.  It works by inducing the body to produce more of its own natural antioxidant enzymes, eg: Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Catalase (CAT) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX) etc. to fight oxidation.  Protandim allows these enzymes to be produced within the cells where oxidative stress actually occurs.  This is in contrast to traditional antioxidant supplements which have to pass significant digestive and absorption barriers.

All Natural & Supplements:  Beta-sitosterol Now The Most Popular Supplement in the Forum.  Lately many in the All Natural & Supplements forum have added Beta-sitosterol to their regimen.  Some even reported good results from it. Here’s a brief description about this supplement: “Beta-sitosterol is the active ingredient in saw palmetto berries, which have been used for centuries to treat patients with prostate and urinary problems.  The active ingredient in saw palmetto as well as other herbal remedies such as pygeum, stinging nettle, and pumpkin seeds is beta-sitosterol.  One capsule usually contains 300mg of beta-sitosterol. You would have to eat 2 lbs. of saw palmetto to get the same amount of beta-sitosterol one 300mg capsule.  This is 3000 times more potent than saw palmetto.”.  Some recent comments from people who reported good results with this supplement.
