Morehairin  - Key Ingredient: GSE (grape seed extract)

Types of Morehairin :

Instructions for Morehairin with or without Senburi
Step by step instructions for 100 days use – 3-month

(a)10g Chinese licorice (Gan Cao, Kanzo)----indispensable, can be in extract, root or powder, just make sure it is 10g.

(b) 5g Perilla leaf (Perilla frutescens, Zi Su Ye, Shiso)----recommended, can be in root or powder form, just make sure it is 5g.

(c) 5g Senburi----original Mohkatsurin includes this herb. It is peculiar to Japan. It has been traditionally used for particularly 'alopecia areata'. It is certainly a specific remedy for alopecia areata, but if you suffer from MPB, you don't need it. Only if you can luckily get it from any Chinese herbal shop in your country, you had better add it.* It's supposed to be a bonus.

(d) 300ml water

(a)+(b)+(c)+(d) -----> boil them for about 20-30minutes (or up to 60 mins if you are using Senburi, in low heat) until the resulting extract solution is about 200ml. Throw away the ground, roots or leaves. The color of the extract will be dark brown to black. Cool it.

Step two:

Add ethyl alchohol (ethanol) 200ml to (e). If you can't get pure ethyl alcohol, use high proof vodka. The resulting alcoholic water solution is 400ml and the concentration of ethanol is about 50%.

Step three:

Add 10g-15g (10000mg-15000mg) Grape Seed Extract (pure powder) and stir it.

Sep four:

This is the secret of Mohkatsurin. You must add 20ml of *RED WINE* as a starter. Never forget to add red wine, I repeatedly claim. Any kind of red wine is fine.

The final solution = 420 ml. – Reddish Brown in color.

Store in refrigerator.

Application:

Apply 2ml of Morehairin per treatment. Do not need to massage Morehairin onto scalp. For best results, use twice a day. That is you *must* use 4ml totally per day. Leave Morehairin on your scalp until you shampoo the next day. Store the remaining Moreharin in refrigerator. Although it is recommended to be used twice daily, Waseda indicates that Morehairin would still work even if you scale it down to once per day. Some people choose to use Morehairin once per day (at night) because Morehairin stains.

More potent method for alopepcia areata is to steep (ie: soak) 5g Senburi in 70ml pure ethanol (or extremely high proof vodka) for one month. After one month, add the solution to Morehairin.

Instructions for Morehairin anti-DHT formula with Bayberry (senburi optional)
Step by step instructions for 100 days use – 3-month

To make an even more potent Morehairin, add Bayberry extract. Bayberry is a topical DHT inhibitor that has been proven to be 80% effective. The amount to add to the Morehairin is 200 ml Bayberry extract to compound a solution good for 100 days. Waseda recommends:

1) Compound 200 ml of Bayberry extract by steeping Bayberry powder in 50% concentrated ethanol solution for 24-48 hours. The amount of Bayberry powder to use can be anywhere from 40 g – 80 g. Remember to filer the Bayberry residues when the solution is ready.
2) Add 10-15g of GSE to the Bayberry extract.
3) Make boiled concoction of licorice, senburi (optional) and perilla leaf, follow step 1 of the instructions for basic Morehairin. See above. The only difference is that this boiled concoction should be just 100 ml. Let the boiled mixture cool.
4) Add 100 ml of pure ethanol or extremely high proof vodka to the boiled concoction.
5) Add the Bayberry solution formulated in step 1 above to the boiled concoction.
4) Add 20 ml of red wine.
This will give you the same 420 ml formula as the Morehairin instruction.

Alternatively, simply compound the Bayberry extract in 200 ml of ethanol and then pour the entire Bayberry solution to the boiled concoction (licorice, senburi, perilla leaf) for Morehairin in Step 1 of the  basic Morehairin instructions. Then add the 10g-15g GSE and the 20 ml red wine.

Instructions for GSE-Minoxidil formula
Good for 60-day

It is Ok to use Morehairin (with Bayberry) in conjunction with topical minoxidil. Alternatively, if you want a simplified GSE-Minoxidil formula, simply add 3g – 4.5g of GSE to one 60 ml bottle of Rogaine. Waseda indicated that 1 teaspoon is about 5g of GSE. Be sure to use pure GSE powder. You may have to filter the final solution through thin cloth if there are residues. Also Waseda suggested that it may help to add a little bit of water to enhance dissolution of the GSE powder. The ratio is 7:3 (7 parts minoxidil, 3 parts water).

Instructions for Liposome based alcohol free Morehairin
Good for under 100 days

Liposome is a very well know agent that can enhance penetration of your topical solution. Liquid GSE with liposome can be found at Innovative Natural Products. It is called Phytosome Process GSE. http://store.yahoo.com/iherb/grapeseed3.html

According to Waseda, Grape Seed Phytosome can be used to formulate a version of Morehairin that does not contain alcohol.

1) Make boiled concoction of licorice 10 g, senburi 5g (optional) and perilla leaf 5g. The final concoction should be about 80 ml. Let it cool.
2) Add about 100ml pure ethanol or extremely high proof vodka to the boiled concoction.
3) Add 120 ml of liquid GSE – Innovative Products’ Phytosome Process GSE.
4) The final solution should be about 300 ml.
5) Note that this version of Morehairin does not give you the minimum of 100-150mg of daily procyanidin requirement for hair growth. However, with the benefit of liposome, it may still work quite well. Waseda said you can add extra GSE to the final solution up to the point when the solution becomes excessively muddy. Under the above formula, you get about 24mg/day of Leucocyanidines Phytosome.

Alternatively, the easiest way to make liposome based Morehairin is to simply add the liquid GSE to Mohkatsurin. But the problem is that Mohkatsurin is only available in Japan. Mohkatsurin uses pure procyanidin B2.

v) Ancientway.com - They sell the exact same type of of GSE as Shanghai Sahanji but you do not have to purchase the 100g bag. Ancientway sells GSE in smaller quantities.

v) SooperGrape

You need to add 10g-15g (10000mg-15000mg) Grape Seed Extract and stir it in step (3) of the instructions.

For instance, if you use Nature's purest Grape Seed Extract 95%, you use up 120 capsules from a bottle and it amounts to 12g of procyanidin. Hairback told me (ii). You need 200 capsules of (ii), but you can get extra red wine extract. Rosehip as well as red wine extract is really good for hairs

If you are using GSE capsules instead of pure GSE powder, only use the powder inside the capsules. Do not use the entire capsule.

Note that the Phytosome GSE from Enzymatic is not the recommended brand according to Waseda. Although there is nothing wrong with Enzymatic's version of Phystosome, Waseda thinks that Innovative's Phytosome Process GSE is better. Also, someone ordered Phytosome GSE  from iherb and received the wrong kind of GSE. 

Finer details about making Morehairin

• The final solution must be about 50% alcohol unless you choose the alcohol free version.
   

• You can use almost any brand of GSE (whether liquid or powder) in the market to make Morehairin. The key is to add at least 10g – 15g (10000mg – 15000mg) in step 3 of the instructions for basic Morehairin when making a batch good for 100 days. If translated to daily usage, about 100mg-150mg per day. Waseda indicates that you can even use up to 20g. However if you use too much GSE, your solution may turn out to be excessively muddy with a lot of residues.
   

• In making Morehairin, you need not steep herbs in alcohol because GSE is water soluble. The only exception is when you decided to add Senburi to Morehairin. If you want to add Senburi, it is recommended that you steep 5g Senburi in 70ml of pure ethanol (or extremely high proof Vodka) for one month and then add the solution to Morehairin.
   

• Do not use ethyl alcohol that contains Acetone, Benzonate, Ketone. These are bad for your skin. If you cannot find pure ethyl alcohol, use extremely high proof Vodka instead. It works just as well.
   

• If your final Morehairin solution is muddy with a lot of residues, it is because of the other ingredients that are included in your GSE capsules. For example, you will find that GSE capsules commonly include rosehip powder as well. Though GSE is water soluble, such other ingredients are not. Waseda recommends filtering the final mix through a thin cloth.
   

• If after boiling the licorice, senburi and perilla leaf mix for 20 minutes according to step 1 of the instruction for basic Morehairin you have less than 200 ml, it is alright to add more water in order to come up to 200 ml.
    

• Perilla Leaf and GSE from www.lef.org are not recommended. According to Waseda, the Perilla Leaf from LEF is Perilla seed’s oil which is inappropriate for Morehairin. We need dry Perilla leaf. Second, the GSE from LEF contains unnecessary ingredients such as brown rice powder. Waseda recommends Country Life’s GSE (200mg / capsule) or pure GSE powder from Shanghai Sahanji. See Vendor list above.
    

• After applying Morehairin to your scalp, it feels kind of dry much like having a thin film over your scalp. Your hair will also feel stiff. This is normal. For those who are using Souhakuhi as well, Waseda recommends applying Souhakuhi first followed by Morehairin.
    

• If you are using both Souhakuhi and Morehairin, you can apply Morehairin soon after you use Souhakuhi without having to wait.
    

• The order of application, if you are using all these products:
  1) topical spiro, 2) minoxidil, 3) Souhakuhi, 4) Morehairin
    

• Standard of proof in vodka is different between US and UK. According to Waseda, 80-100 may correspond to 50% ethanol. If you are using 40%-50% ABV Vodka, you can simply use the vodka as is without adding water.
  
     

• It is also recommended if you simply want to add GSE powder into Revivogen. Again, add about 3g – 4.5g of GSE into a 60 ml bottle. This would be the easiest way to enhance the potency of Revivogen.
     

• After applying Morehairin, you can also spray 1) Senburi extract in 50% ethanol, or 2) Licorice extract in 50% ethanol, or 3) Ascorbic Acid in 5% water to enhance penetration of GSE
  
     

• Besides using liposomes, alcohol free Morehairin can also be compounded using Dermovan, horse oil, perilla seed oil, and emu oil in place or ethanol.
  
     

• If you are going to use liquid GSE, the one from Innovative is better suited for our purpose than the one from Enzy.
