Hey Thorin! I hope that things are looking brighter for you today! My friend's name is Milton West and he lives here in good old Converse, Texas! I've heard that it's a pretty tight community at Duke so I'm sure that someone has heard of him. I haven't seen him in a while but all of the emails that I receive say good things about his remission. People don't understand how deadly skin cancer can be. The common belief is that it's on the surface and can just be removed. But it's not that easy is it!?Especially once it get a toe-hold beneath the surface. It's kind of like the hair loss. It makes us 'different' and we blame a lot of the things that happen to us on the cancer (or the hair loss). People accomplish awesome things despite the obstacles and we can also. The cancer kicked my ass. The hair loss kicks my ass. Sometimes my life kicks my ass. But I keep getting up because I'm alive and as long as we're alive there are good things just waiting for us. When it gets to be too much I fix myself a drink, lock my door, turn out the lights, put a CD of Ave Maria in the stereo, and get lost in the powerful emotion that the music conveys. I always feel so much better the next day. It's okay to feel emotion, good and bad. It's what seperates us from the animals. Michele
