Hi Trey,

In terms of preserving follicles, I believe that the follicles must not be completely "withered" away from years of alopecia such that not even villus hairs are present. However, often such "little" hairs are present. In order to restore these follicle to full terminal hairs with AA resistance, to my knowledge, you could only intervine with a drug such as propecia or minoxidil to "temporary" hold on to them since you are blocking DHT either from follicle sensitivity (minox) or on the systemic circulation of the DHT (propecia). Now, in order to "bring the follicles back", I feel that only a lotion, such as the "gene liposome" one preposed by Anti-Cancer would possible to restore these follicles. Cell therapy or other remedies that I know of would not work. Therefore, in my opinion, the only way to revive existing villus hairs would be by an extremely potent anti-DHT solution working on systemic DHT as well as local DHT receptors in the follicle. Additionally a miracle lotion that works on DNA targeted to the genes in the follicle for AA. As usual-there also comes adverse drug reactions.

Time frame for Unger- Unfortunately I was not able to see him a few weeks ago, but I spoke to Cotterill, (who works with Unger) and they say 3-5 years, but he did say it could be even 10. Cotterill also said that other researcher, such as Gho, might come out sooner since the laws for these procedure are less strict in Europe. Quality-I suppose that depends on 1)if the cells are first cloned in tissue in lab then transplanted or 2)injecting straight. If they go by 1, then the final outcome will depend on the expertise of the doctor since traditional HT will be intergral to the procedure. If 2, then perhaps not as much will be needed and the overall faith of the hair would be what comes out of the needle, goes into the tissue, speads around, and makes hair. Personally I think both ways are feasible, however, it seems like there is more control and less chance of errors, such as wrong angles with #1. Back to timeframe, as you know, we can never really know. But what we do know is 1)the procedure is possible 2)the financial implications are enormous thus, it won't simply be "let go" and ended 3)both patients and doctors would benefit-since even the sloppy surgeon could theoretically get away with creating a head of hair.
