We are
pleased to announce that Dr. Ken Washenik has met with
representative from HairSite
for an in-depth interview on May 30, 2003. Ken
Washenik, M.D., Ph.D., is the Chief Medical Officer of Bosley
Medical Institute and Bosley Medical Group. Dr. Washenik is
currently directing Bosley
Medical's hair-related research
initiative. This research effort will focus on all aspects of hair
follicle growth and development, but will have as its primary
emphasis the tissue engineering aspects of hair follicle induction
and neogenesis. The entire interview lasted almost three hours at Bosley
Medical's Manhattan (NY)
office. Dr. Washenik was very gracious and generous with his time. He addressed all the
important questions raised in HairSite's
Hair Multiplication Forum by our readers and most
important of all, Dr. Washenik offered our readers the latest update on the timeframe
issue. We wish to thank Dr. Washenik and

Aderans
Co., Ltd. in Japan established the Aderans Research Institute in the
United States in 2002 to advance in the research and development of
medical hair regeneration (Biotechnology).
On June 28th 2002 Aderans, through Aderans Holdings Inc. acquired
technologies related to tissue engineering from BioAmide, Inc.,
including three granted patents and three pending patents. The
principal office of BioAmide is located in Atlanta, Georgia.
BioAmide was founded in 1997 with the purpose of developing products
based on organic regeneration techniques. The Aderans Research
Institute will follow BioAmide's studies and apply this to hair
regeneration, with the objective of future commercialization. In
particular, Aderans Research Institute will apply the results to the
hair transplantation business of
Bosley
Medical Institute, Inc.
which joined Aderans last year. These technologies will enable
Aderans to actively provide advanced medical services to patients
suffering from hair loss.

Ken Washenik, M.D.,Ph.D. * |
Dr. Washenik is the former Director of the Dermatopharmacology unit
at New York University School of Medicine, and is widely recognized
for his important clinical research and innovative advancements in
the medical treatment of hair loss.
After
earning his Medical Doctor (M.D.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
degrees from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in
1990, Dr. Washenik completed his internship at the St. Joseph
Hospital Department of Medicine in Houston, where he received the
Outstanding Intern Award. He finished his residency training at the
NYU Medical Center in 1994 followed by a fellowship in
Dermatopharmacology in 1995.
Following his medical training,
Dr. Washenik began his professional career in the New York area,
eventually accepting the position of Chief of Dermatology at
Brooklyn Hospital Center. Later he was appointed as a Harris
Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Director of the
Dermatopharmacology Unit at NYU School of Medicine. He has been
active in the training of Dermatology residents in the Hair Clinic
at NYU School of Medicine, and maintained a clinical Dermatology
practice at the New York University Medical Center before joining
Bosley.
As an international lecturer and
medical educator, Dr. Washenik has presented papers and seminars at
numerous medical conferences. He has published widely in scientific
and medical journals including The New England Journal of
Medicine, The Lancet, Journal of the American Academy
of Dermatology and Archives of Dermatology, and has
written a number of chapters in dermatological textbooks. Dr.
Washenik's clinical research on the pharmacological treatment of
hair loss is widely known and respected.
Dr. Washenik is a Diplomate of the
American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy
of Dermatology. Dr. Washenik works closely with Bosley's founder L.
Lee Bosley, M.D. and the Associate M.D.s to ensure medical and
surgical excellence throughout the Bosley organization.
