Electromagnetic
waves can be found all over the universe. They are mainly emitted by
the sun (x-rays, gamma rays, ultraviolets and infrareds).
Cosmetic
Effects of Electromagnetic Waves on Hair
Studies have shown that the cosmetic aspect of hair is greatly
enhanced through the use of electromagnetic waves. The hair becomes
thicker, and the shaft develops more evenly. This provides more
volume and shine, thereby making the hair more manageable.
The Medical
Use of Electromagnetic Waves
They have been used in the medical and cosmetic domains since
d'Arsonval discovered them in 1920. Clinical studies have shown that
certain pulsated electromagnetic waves favor tissue repair and are
efficient tools in dermatology and rhumatology. In the United
States, orthoepists have developed extensive and very conclusive
knowledge in the area of disunited fractures and pseudarthrosis
(delayed consolidation). In this field, Basset reported a rate of
success of over 90% with adults when the field exposure is coupled
with sound techniques of more classic treatments.
Tissue
Regeneration Through Electromagnetic Waves
Healthy
cells are polarized at -70 millivolts (mV), whereas traumatized ones
are polarized at -50 mV. If the polarization threshold continues to
diminish, a necrosis sets in at -30mV, and the cell dies. The
appliance of a high-frequency electromagnetic field, pulsated at low
frequency and of low intensity, results in a repolarization
accompanied by tissue regeneration.
All the studies
conclude on the reality of beneficial effect(s). Scientific
researches Becker and Murray proved that tiny electric currents can
produce cell dedifferentiation (after dedifferentiation). The
crucial point is that the cells able to dedifferentiate play a very
important role in the construction of the new matrix, that will lead
to a new anagenic phase (hair growth) and new hair. Finally, the use
of an electromagnetic field in the treatment of alopecia was
validated by the research conducted by Maddin in 1992 that showed
that a pulsated electromagnetic field facilitates hair growth.
