Special
thanks to AIO who brought us news about Intercytex
in the Research
forum.
Based in Manchester, UK, Intercytex was founded in 1999 as a tissue
regenerative company with laboratories and offices in both U.K and
U.S.A. Intercytex has a hair regeneration program that has intrigued
our forum members for quite some time now. Intercytex's focus is on
using dermal papilla cells to induce new hair growth and they called
this new procedure TrichoCyte. It has been reported that Intercytex
will be starting clinical trials by the end of 2002.
The following is an excerpt about TrichoCyte as reported in July
2002's BioVenture View:
"TrichoCyte
is a product that uses dermal papilla cells to induce new hair
formation. It's initially indicated as a treatment for male pattern
baldness and alopecia." Towards the base of the hair follicle,
there are a small collection of cells that are known to be hair
inductive. "If you take those cells and transplant them on a
one-to-one basis you can induce new hairs. What we want to do is
expand them up and be able to deliver large numbers of inductive
cells back to the patient... ....... TrichoCyte should follow
ProtoDerm into the clinic by year-end."
