Pioneering Doctor Receives Recognition From His Peers;

Awarded Golden Follicle Award

Dr. Matt Leavitt received the Golden Follicle Award in Chicago Saturday at the tenth annual meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. The ISHRS Golden Follicle Award is the highest honor a hair transplant surgeon can receive from his fellow hair restoration surgeons. It recognizes outstanding and significant clinical contributions related to hair restoration surgery.

At the meeting, Dr. Leavitt was also elected to the Society's Board of Governors and was awarded the Society's top research award. The meeting was attended by approximately 600 of its members.

Dr. Leavitt lectured to the general assembly on the validity of the numerous trendy, non-surgical hair loss remedies. He also spoke on the use of Propecia, designing and restoring a natural hairline in hair transplant surgery, medical and surgical treatment of female hair loss, an update of continuing studies initiated at March's Live Surgery Workshop and directed the hands-on beginners' training program at the Chicago meeting.

Widely respected as an authority on hair loss and hair transplantation, Dr. Leavitt is readily available to speak on these topics, as well as the future of hair restoration, possibility of cloning hair, the effectiveness of Propecia, Rogaine and medications on the horizon or any other related subject. An activist and leader in the field, he was one of the founding members of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. He has developed new techniques and instrumentation for use in hair transplant surgery. Dr. Leavitt has also served as editor for the hair transplant editions of the International Journal of Cosmetic Surgery.

For the past eight years, Dr. Leavitt has hosted the international Live Surgery Workshop in March to promote the evolution of the field of medical and surgical hair restoration. It is a unique annual event in which doctors share the newest techniques, discuss the latest research and initiate new studies while participating in more than 20 surgical cases. He also supervises one of the few formally recognized physician fellowship programs in the hair restoration specialty. His practice, Medical Hair Restoration, celebrated its tenth anniversary earlier this year.
