New
York, NY, March 22, 2002 Beauty industry professionals packed
the aisles of the Jdbob K. Javits Center in New York CIty; NYC March
l 0 - 12, 2002 for the International Beauty Show, now in its
86" year and going strong. Attendance for the three-day event
reached 46,353, up slightly from last year. Over 550 exhibitors
brought the best and brightest in new products and techniques to
share at this international gathering for hair, nail and skin care
professionals. Corporate sponsors of the event were Redken, Takara
Belmont, Paramount, Sally Beauty, JPMS and Pibbs Industries.
Long-time exhibitors and those participating for first time both
were very pleased with the event. "Another exceptional year
with good attendance. Everything is selling out. We're looking
forward again to next year," said Marc Geil, Market Development
Manager of Wahl Clipper.
Michael O'Rouke, CEO and Founder of Sexy Hair Concepts, agreed. "The New York Show audience was very attentive and generous to Sexy Hair Concepts. We found the whole experience exhilarating. Everyone with Show Management was supportive and helped to make our first appearance memorable."
Masters and Main Stage performances drew large crowds and featured celebrity hairstylist Frederic Chukka, the
four-time British hairstylist of the year Trevor Sorbie, John Paul Mitchell Systems' Robert Cromean and Scott Cole and Goldwell's Mike Karg. Terry Bell of ILO Academy in Washington, D.C. took a few moments prior to the performances on Monday, March 11, the
six-month anniversary of 9/11 to read a letter from New York Mayor Bloomberg's office recognizing the longevity of the IBS New York event as well as the contribution of hair stylists in helping New York following the attacks.
"From
cut-a-thons in salons, to corporate donations from manufacturers, beauty professionals gave back to the New York community in many ways. The beauty industry has always been on one of the most charitable industries in our Nation. Not only do you help others look and feel better about themselves, your generosity over the past few months has helped so many that are need," reads the letter from Mayor Bloomberg.

coloring, styling, nails, skin care and salon and spa business. The instructor roster reads like the Who's Who of the industry including Oscar Bond, Stuart Gavert, Ruth Roche, D.J.
