American Academy of Cosmetic
Surgery released year 2000 statistics on cosmetic surgery.
According to the report, liposuction was by far the most popular cosmetic
surgery with over 670,000 procedures performed. The increase in
liposuction procedures has been dramatic in the past ten years, a stunning
ten fold increase.
Rounding the top four surgeries are eyelid surgery (over 465,000
procedures performed), breast augmentation ( over 280,000 procedures
performed), followed by facelift (over 244,000 procedures
performed).
The top three surgeries for men are:
1. Hair Transplantation - over 177,000 procedures performed
2. Liposuction - over 114,000 procedures performed
3. Eyelid Surgery - over 88,000 procedures performed.
Based on the above statistics and at an average cost of US $5,000 per
session, we can estimate that the hair transplant industry in the U.S
alone is close to a US $1 billion business, conservatively
speaking.
Research suggests that hair transplant is a growing business with more and
more men and women accepting this treatment as a viable alternative to
baldness. Also, the media has been very aggressive in promoting hair
transplant as a non-invasive surgery with few side
effects.
