HAIR TRANSPLANT NEWS
CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER

May 09 - May 15, 2005
Dr. Woods: Repair of Repair of Pluggy, Uneven and Scarred Hairline with FUE. This is a repair case with 2000 FUE grafts. Dr. Woods soften the pluggy, uneven and scarred hairline of this patient after 3 sessions. The repair was done by utilizing nape hair, chest and abdominal hair. None of the prior pluggy grafts were removed in the process. You can also see the chest donor pictures in this discussion.

May 09 - May 15, 2005
Dr. Cole: Body Hair Transplant Megasession 5000 Grafts on the Crown Grown Out Results plus Amazing Leg Hair to Anterior Temples 2.5 Months Results. This is the first body hair transplant megasession grown out results posted in the forum. The patient had about 5000 BHT grafts placed into 80 square cm of bald crown. The result is exceptionally natural with very respectable yield. This discussion also features an attempt to lower the patient’s hairline with about 1700 grafts of leg hair as well as a 2.5 month post op results from leg hair transplanted into the anterior temples.

May 09 - May 15, 2005
Dr. Woods: 5,500 FUE/BHT grafts, 4 Weeks Results, Grafts Started Growing Immediately Post Op . 4 weeks post op photos of a Norwood 6 patient who had received 2,500 scalp donor hair and 3,000 chest and abdominal/loin hair. Total of 5,500 grafts. The last session was 10 days ago to the frontal hairline. The scabs were removed immediately prior to these photographs being taken, hence the minor pinkness to the frontal hairline. Abdominal hair was placed to the crown 2 weeks ago prior to these photographs. A close up shot is provided and some of the scabs are still present. There is good growth right from the start. All graft hair shafts were 1 to 2 mm in length. As is clearly seen, many hair have extended by several millimeters since the procedure.

May 09 - May 15, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Combination of a Dense Packed Hairline with Hair Piece Behind Using Body Hair Transplantation, 1500 grafts. Norwood 6 patient underwent a 1500 graft BHT session. The grafts are being extracted from the thighs and the calves of the patient. The plan is to place 1500 body hair grafts this time round to create a narrow but dense hairline zone. Patient’s intention is to continue to wear the hair piece after this 1500 grafts procedure.

May 02 - May 08, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Body Hair Transplant Wet Zone Harvesting. Donor Site photos. A small discussion about wet zone harvesting with photos illustration by Dr. Arvind. Photos show donor sites from the abdomen, pubic and armpit areas.

May 02 - May 08, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Recipient Site Grafts Placement and Angulation: an in-depth discussion. Excellent discussion about grafts placement and angulation in the recipient site. Discussion include using slits and blades in the coronal plane and the sagittal plane. Very educational, informative and somewhat technical for the average poster.

Apr 25 - May 01, 2005
Dr. Arvind: HairSite’s First Documented Case of Donor Exchange Method (DEM), over 1000 Body Hair grafts used in Donor Site. Multi-modules treatments and HairSite’s first documented case of Donor Exchange Method utilizing over 1000 body hair grafts on the patient’s donor site.  1.Closing of the temples- 2628 FUSE/fue grafts used in the front hairline and temple areas to create a dense pack hairline as well as to close the temple angles.  2.Donor exchange (DEM)- over1000 body hair grafts used for putting into the scalp donor areas-1048 DEM grafts to be precise. The grafts were randomly distributed in the scalp donor areas. The body hair used for DEM were from the thighs and the calves.  3.He had got a strip surgery done previously and the strip scar was also transplanted into. 255 scalp FUSE grafts were used for the purpose.

Apr 25 - May 01, 2005
Dr. Cole: One of the Best Crown Restoration Results with Only 700 grafts. This Norwood 5a – 6 presented his case to Dr. Cole back in 1997. At that time Dr. Cole was one of a small group of hair restoration surgeons performing total microscopic follicular unit hair transplantation. The patient followed-up with two more surgeries in early 2004 – one a microscopic FUT strip session for the frontal and mid sections and the other a 700 graft FIT/FUE procedure to address the crown. This is one of the best documented case of crown restoration utilizing only 700 grafts.

Apr 25 - May 01, 2005
Dr. Arvind: In-depth discussion about grafts placement and angulation in the recipient site. It is possible to get follicular unit grafts and still not get natural looking results in the recipient areas. It will be helpful to know why that may happen so that patients, in conjunction with their doctors, can avoid such a scenario. This is an excellent illustration by Dr. Arvind showing where and how the angles of the recipient sites change as one proceeds from the hairline to the temples.

Apr 25 - May 01, 2005
Dr. Jones: FUE into Strip Scar, 250 Grafts, 1 Year Result .Successful scar repair by Dr. Jones using only 250 FUE grafts. This patient has a fairly unsightly linear scar in the back of his head, typical of some strip hair transplant procedures. This is yet another illustration of how a few hundreds FUE grafts can make a very nice camouflage in the donor site.

Apr 11 - Apr 17, 2005
Dr. Umar: Body Hair Transplant Methodology: Anagen Hair Selection. Some Body hair transplant (BHT) practitioners have already adopted in their methodology, the harvesting of only actively growing hair for BHT purposes. This idea is premised on the supposition that even more anagen hair would be derived for transplantation by this approach. The popular modality used to achieve this has entailed so far, shaving the body donor area several days before harvesting. We conducted a cursory study to put this assumption to the test.

Apr 11 - Apr 17, 2005
Dr. Woods & NHI: Comparing FUE Donor Site Photos.A recent discussion comparing FUE donor sites between The Woods Technique and NHI.

Apr 11 - Apr 17, 2005
Dr. Arvind: FUE Donor Sites, Up Close & Personal Using Donor Sealant Technique.
This discussion focuses on the appearance of the donor areas where Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) has been performed and the Donor Sealant protocol has been followed.  Different scenarios have been presented:

1. the donor area has been shaved (hair being 1 mm or less)
2. the grafts/FUs have been densely extracted. 20-30 FUs have been extracted per sq cm.

The following issues are discussed:
1. Appearance, or otherwise, of hypopigmented dots.
2. Appearance, or otherwise, of empty spaces but no white dots.
3. Contrast with the hair density in the surrounding areas.
4. The distance from where any anomaly (dots, spaces, contrast) is visible and the distance at which it stops manifesting itself.

Apr 11 - Apr 17, 2005
Dr. Cole: Results of 400 FIT/FUE grafts on an African-American patient. This patient’s pictures were taken one year after his initial procedure of only 400 FUE grafts into the temple areas. Here is a classic example of the “less is more” phenomenon and it also shows FIT/FUE results on a African-American patient. These grafts were extracted via Dr. Cole’s FIT/FUE method and, as usual, they have matured beautifully and healthily. This is a good example of what can be achieved when excellent hair characteristics meet ultra-refined surgical techniques. A former Norwood class 3a, this patient now enjoys a more flattering but still age-appropriate hairline.

Apr 11 - Apr 17, 2005
Hair Transplant: Strip vs FUE, which provides more Grafts ? This is an interesting, yet controversial topic started by one of our forum members. Strip vs FUE, the never ending debate as to which is a more viable technique in hair transplant

Apr 11 - Apr 17, 2005
Hair Transplant: Where Are They Now ?A thread started by one of our members aiming to track down people who had hair transplant done but never follow up with their results.

Apr 04 - Apr 10, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Repair Patient with 2300 FUE grafts, 11 months Post Op.
A repair patient who had 2300 FUE grafts 11 months results. This patient has some mini grafts or plugs in the temporal recession areas. Grafts in these areas should ideally be excised but the patient did not want to touch them at the moment. Dr. Arvind’s team, therefore, only concentrated on the front half of his scalp. These pictures are taken when the patient came to Dr. Arvind’s clinic to have the grafts excised as well as to receive another 500 FUSE/FUE grafts placed in his crown area.

Apr 04 - Apr 10, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Repairing Minigrafts in the Temporal Areas with FUE Techniques. This is a patient who developed traction alopecia- loss of hair resulting from constant pulling and pressure exerted onto the scalp and hair.

He was previously administered rows of minigrafts and plugs in the front hairline and the temple areas by another doctor. Dismayed with the results, this patient convinced the original doctor to excise the plugs in the hairline. The plugs were excised in form of a strip which was then sutured closed. The temple area minigrafts, however, remained until this patient visited Dr. Arvind Poswal.

Hair Transplant: Hair Transplant Patients Given the Right to Use a Trade Name for a Clinic They Want to Criticize. A former Bosley patient achieves justice against Bosley Medical. The transplant corporation proceeded with litigations due to the patient posting criticisms on the internet regarding his botched procedure, while the presiding judge ruled in his favor. Kremer's attorney, Paul Levy, said the decision "is an important victory for free speech on the Internet. It makes clear that consumers can use a trade name for a company they want to criticize."

Apr 04 - Apr 10, 2005
Dr. Arvind: How Donor Sealing Works in FUE Donor Sites? The reason behind the success of donor sealing is that 1. It returns the pigment bearing cells back to the donor sites where they are required to avoid appearance of 'white dots'.  2. It helps in promoting healing of the extraction sites by making "healing by primary intention" possible.

In the FUSE extraction sites, since the wounds are round and close and many in number, traditional methods of healing by primary intention are not possible (except in the donor exchange method). Therefore, the extraction site will heal by collagen formation from the dermis upwards. This collagen is white in color and is responsible for the "white dots".

Donor sealing creates a virtual seal of pigment bearing epidermis on top of each of the extraction sites. The surrounding epidermis, joins the donor sealant to provide "healing by primary intention".

The deeper dermal layers do heal by secondary intention and do form collagen, but the pigmented epidermis on top of the extraction site makes sure that the collagen tissue remains below and is not visible
.

Dr. Arvind: Body Hair Placement & Quantity for Optimal Results? An intriguing discussion about where and how many body hairs to place to get the best look in a transplant? Issues to factor in are: the Body Hair factors, followed by the need to address the scalp or the recipient area characteristics.

Mar 28 - Apr 03, 2005
Dr. Cole: 900 FIT/FUE Results into the Top Mid-section of the Scalp plus Plugs removal. This is a 900 graft session of CIT (FUE), the Cole Isolation Technique, to the top mid-section of the scalp. The hairline was not grafted. Rather, Dr. Cole began removing several large, "pluggy" looking grafts from the right side of the hairline. The crown was not grafted either. Patient was quite satisfied with the healing of the right frontal hair line without scarring following tdäèüäpÌÁal of several of the very large noticeable 2, 3, and 4 hair grafts that were on the hair line. The patient now returns to Dr. Cole to remove many other large grafts from the hairline and to build a new hairline that is softer and more natural. this will blend well with the outstanding coverage he obtained from his relatively small first procedure.

Mar 21 - Mar 27, 2005
Dr. Arvind: First Ever Donor Exchange method Performed on Topjimmy. The Donor Exchange Method appears as a logical course to follow for those who : 1. People who do not wish to use body hair over the bald recipient sites but have a degree of hairloss that is too severe to fill with the scalp donor hair alone. For these individuals this avenue opens the possibility of harvesting the scalp donor areas to a greater extent while still minimizing chances of visible thinning in the back of the scalp. 2. People who may have very thin and fine body hair growth. These individuals may like to use the very thin/fine hair in the scalp donor sites rather than the recipient/bald areas. The first patient to have such a procedure performed, albeit in a very limited way is a forum member- TopJimmy.

Mar 21 - Mar 27, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Shaving the Donor Site prior to Body Hair Transplant Procedures. According to Dr. Arvind, shaving the donor areas to get the actively growing hair is one of the keys to improved yield. This discussion attempts to analyze the reasons for efficacy of shaving. What if one were not to shave the donor areas? 1. Will it lead to the same yield/results albeit over a longer duration? 2. If yes, than what should be the extra time that will be required to notice most of the transplanted hair to start growing? 3. If no, should shaving the body donor areas be considered an important/essential requirement of body hair transplant. 4. In a patient where, for some reason, the body donor hair could not be shaved, is there an alternative way to determine which hair are the telogen/non growing hair?

Dr. Carlos Oscar Uebel: Growth Factors Used to Expedite Hair Growth and Yield after Hair Transplant. Growth factors concentrated from a patient's own bloodaccelerate hair regrowth while producing up to 35 percent more follicular density, says Carlos Oscar Uebel, M.D.

"Normally it takes three months for hair to start growing. For some patients this is very problematic. Grafts fertilized with platelet-rich plasma start to grow in a few weeks," says Dr. Uebel, associate professor of plastic surgery at Pontifícia Universidade Católicado Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Prior to surgery, technicians take 80 cc of blood, centrifuge it, then concentrate the plasma into a gel. Dr. Uebel then places donor follicles in the gel for 15 minutes, much in the same way a horticulturalist inoculates roots tohasten propagation.

Mar 14 - Mar 20, 2005
Dr. Cole: Vitiligo-Thoughts on Pigmentation in Strip Scars. Here is an interesting study to treat vitiligo. Vitiligo is a loss of skin pigment. Dark skin turns white in vitiigo. When you do a strip surgery, you find that the scar is often bright pink or white. One way we have treated these white strip scars in the past is to place grafts from FIT into the scar. We have found that this often helps to make the scars regain some pigment through the production of melanin. In this study normal skin grafts were placed into the white areas of skin. They also developed pigment and turned a more natural state of brown in this dark skinned individual.

Mar 14 - Mar 20, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Donor Exchange Method, Birth of a new FUE Hair Transplant Protocol. Forum member engages Dr. Arvind in a discussion about using body hair graft to seal off the scalp donor sites after harvesting. According to Dr. Arvind, the potential benefits for such an experiment are: 1. If the body hair in that particular patient takes on the characteristics of the scalp hair, the patient could potentially multiply his donor supply. 2. If the body hair, in a particular patient, does not take on acceptable level of scalp hair characteristics, it can still provide much needed coverage even with extensive scalp hair extractions.

Mar 14 - Mar 20, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Repairing Hair Transplant Plugs Without Excising the Grafts. Repair of a wrongly performed hair transplant involves decision making in equal parts on the side of the doctor as well as the patient. Sometimes, the patient may be wary/unwilling to follow certain approaches that the HT doctor may feel will do good. In such a situation the patient may have a plan of action in his own mind. Some such approaches may be beneficial, others maybe not. This is an illustration of a repair case where the patient is against excising any of the existing plugs.

Mar 14 - Mar 20, 2005
Dr. Bazan: 2500 FUE over 3 Days, Immediately Post Op Photos. This is the first time Dr. Bazan’s patient posts FUE photos in HairSite. This patient has 2500 grafts done over a 3-day period. The photos show immediately post op results. No grown out results at this point.

Mar 14 - Mar 20, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Safe Harvesting, What Constitutes Over-harvesting of the Donor Area? Overharvesting the donor area, whether by fue or by strip IS fraught with danger. With strip, there is the risk of the scar falling out of the safe zone- especially if it is the 3rd megastrip and the doctor does not take into account the excised scalp tissue while calculating the safe zone. With fue, the danger is of harvesting beyond a particular percentage of grafts. Here’s an interesting and in-depth discussion about the danger of over-harvesting led by Dr. Arvind.

Hair Transplant: Hair Transplant Victim Gonzo Seeks Advice from Forum Members. "Just seeking your opinions. I am an unfortunate victim of the early 90's slit grafting I was 20. I have had pretty severe loss over the years, and for my case I would just like to know what you guys think. There is no possible way I could do anything at this point due to my finances are terrible. I wish I would have never started this. But I am screwed now. I am forwarding photos to hairsite as I have no idea how to post them. I am think Woods or Cole. I really have seen some unbelievable repair work from them. Maybe I will win the lotto."

Dr. Umar: 0.5mm - 1.2mm? A Discussion on Optimal FUE Instrument Sizes. Frequently it is asked what instrument sizes are necessary for successful and harm-free FUE extractions. According to Dr. Umar, most scalp follicles can be successfully extracted with 0.75mm-.80mm sized instruments. However on rare occasions a 1mm sized instrument is called for, comparatively however, more frequent use of 1mm sized instruments is made in other non-scalp body areas (as in during body hair transplantation BHT) for various reasons.

Dr. Cole: Norwood 3V Patient with 1300 grafts on the Front Hairline including the Temples. This patient was a virgin scalp (3V norwood scale) and had 1300 graft on the front hair line including the temples. This is a 8 months progress taken with his camera. He said that he his very happy with the results so far. As you can see Dr. Cole has lowered his hair line by a inch and the results are very natural, The coverage is excellent from only 1300 Grafts as well. On the set of the photos, the top photos are before and the one on the bottom are after 8 months.

He required multiple reparative procedures utilizing skin grafting to the frontal hair line, and body hair. The photos are just days after surgery.

Feb 07 - Feb 13, 2005
Dr. Umar: Scalp Hair, Body Hair & Hair Curl. While training on FUSE technique with Dr Poswal, Dr. Umar underwent an 8 day BHT session. The goal was to 1. Further breakup a strip scar that has been previously improved by 600+ scalp FUE. 2. To revisit NW area if leg hair harvesting proved feasible. The following was done during the procedure: 1. To the scar, a combination of scalp and body hair was utilized, about 160 grafts in all. Areas with the least scar camouflage (10-15% of whole scar) were targeted.

Feb 07 - Feb 13, 2005
Dr. Cole: 900 Grafts FIT/FUE results from the NYC seminar. These photos were taken at Dr. Cole’s NYC Seminar 2/5/2005.
This patient had 900 grafts (Feb 04) placed just shy of one year ago when these latest pictures were taken. He has good growth and significant improvement. He will soon return to Dr. cole for another session to increase fullness. His coverage is much better now, however, and he is able to wear his hair much shorter than before. Before his procedure, he was forced to wear the hair much longer to conceal the balding areas especially the temple areas.

Hair Transplant: Why are scars permanent? The science behind scar formation is complex. Answers to whether a wound will leave a scar is dependent on a combination of biological processes that include the characteristics of the original wound and how it healed, and the way the skin cells regenerate. People who are concerned about scar formation in hair transplant procedures may find this article very informative.

Dr. Arvind: Donor Sealant Protocol, Step by Step Illustration of the Exact Methodology. This method entails removal of the epidermis from the graft. The follicular unit (FU) is then placed with the hair just visible on the top of the recipient site. According to Dr. Arvind, the superficial epidermis is not required for the graft growth in the recipient area. However, it is helpful/required to give good results in the donor area and reduce signs of visible scarring. Dr. Arvind and his team have been performing the donor sealing technique for scalp as well as body FUSE donor areas for over 7 months now. They have not encountered any side effects and the results in terms of minimizing any visible scarring have been extraordinary.

Dr. Arvind: Donor Sealing: Minimizing Visible Scars in FUE Donor Sites. This topic started off with Dr. Arvind analyzing the formation of tiny white dots under FUE procedures. Topics that are covered included healing by primary and secondary intention, scar formation in different body parts, mechanisms of tumescence, and stretch & contract approach to scar healing. Dr. Arvind feels that the pathway to an undetectable FUE donor site is to focus on expediting the epidermization process. The aim should be to jump start epidermization and delay the forces of collagen synthesis.

Dr. Cole: FUE and Repair Procedure of Over 3900 grafts from the Hairline throughout the Top and the Crown. This is a patient who had multiple plug grafts placed several years ago by the old punch graft method that left shotgun scars in the back of the scalp. He was a class 5A to 6 and all his hair from the top to the crown area was completely bald. He also has numerous elliptical scars in the back of the scalp where someone shamelessly talked this person into suturing a hairpiece to the top of his scalp. 13 months ago he underwent a FIT/FUE procedure of over 3900 grafts from the hairline throughout the top and including the crown. The old plug scars in the donor area reduced the total follicular density so that Dr. Cole’s team had to harvest follicular units between, above, and below the shotgun scars. The old hairline was too low and the hair growth angle was incorrect and unnatural. All of these factors required a complex repair plan that was carried out 13 months ago at Dr. Cole’s clinic.  Dr. Cole and his team also added some FIT grafts on the "shot gun scars" in his donor area.  The plug scars and other scars are not visible anymore.

Jan 17 - Jan 23, 2005
Dr. Cole: Repair Case for Patient with Low Follicular Density Made Possible by FUE .This patient is a repair case who desired additional coverage in the crown. He had numerous procedures in the 1980s including plugs and scalp reductions. This left him with a pluggy hairline and pluggy tear drop shaped crown. Tear drop shaped crowns result from midline scalp reductions that lower the crown into the donor area and elevate it toward the front. He did not want to soften the hairline. He simply wanted more hair in the crown. His donor area was extremely tight and diffusely scarred with a low donor density. Dr. Cole and his team attempted one strip procedure on him, but this yielded only 400 grafts due to the low follicular density, excessive scarring, and extremely tight donor area. Subsequently, Dr. Cole was able to remove 2000 grafts with the FIT/FUE technique. This is 7 months post op results.

Jan 10 - Jan 16, 2005
Dr. Arvind: 400 FUE grafts on Left Temple, 3.5 months Post Op . This patient is 28 years old. He had 400 grafts on the left temple only. This is also one of the first patients who had received Dr. Arvind’s donor sealant protocol during the procedure.

Jan 10 - Jan 16, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Diffuse Thinning with 3000 grafts, 8 months Post Op . This patient has diffuse thinning and had hair transplant done on the left side of the hairline- 400 FUHT grafts in May 2003 before he went to Dr. Arvind for 3000 grafts in May 2004.

Jan 10 - Jan 16, 2005
Dr. Cole: Norwood class 5A with 2500 grafts. Strip. This patient has received 2500 strip grafts on the frontal region of the scalp. The results are very natural and the transplanted hair is very soft. The before photos were taken with his hair pull down, while the in the after photos the hair is pull up. The frontal area was totally bald as he was a class 5A.

Dr. Arvind: Rarely Shown FUE Extraction Video . This is a very rarely shown FUE extraction video clip. The donor harvesting is performed by Dr. Arvind and is captured live on video. Viewers can see how each follicular unit is being extracted from the donor site. You will require Windows Media Player to view this video clip.

Jan 10 - Jan 16, 2005
Dr. Cole: FUE into Scar, 300 grafts, 8 months Post Op. This patient had a procedure 8 month ago. He had 300 FIT/FUE grafted on his scar. The work results are fantastic. Noticed the pinkish color in the before pictures, it has been dramatically reduced in the after photos. According to Dr. Cole’s team, they have noticed reduction in color with some patients that had FIT/FUE grafted into a scar, and it is definitely helping along with the growth to the overall appearance of the donor. The growth is excellent and the patient is very happy with the results. Even more growth will be expected at 12-15 month's post op.

Jan 10 - Jan 16, 2005
Dr. Arvind: Verifying the Yield for a Small FUE Procedure . This discussion pertains to pictures of a patient who received a small FUE session in Nov 2003. Dr. Arvind and his team placed 90 FUE grafts in an isolated area of the patient’s scalp. According to Dr. Arvind, all the 90 grafts are growing and healthy. This patient is now returning to Dr. Arvind for a 600 graft procedure.

Jan 10 - Jan 16, 2005
Dr. Cole: Norwood 3 with 1100 FUE grafts. Amazing Results. Norwood 3 patient received 1100 grafts at Dr. Cole’s clinic. The density is 30-35 cm2. He received his procedure 2 years ago. This is as natural as it gets for someone who is a Norwood 3. This procedure offers the best illusion of density for a mere 1100 grafts.

Dr. Feller: Bukkaroo’s High Density FUE with Dr. Feller .1,150 FUE grafts with Dr. Feller. 1,000 were put into the hairline and 150 into the linear scar. Dr. Feller partially worked into an area where Dr. Hasson has already planted grafts about a year ago to increase the density. Dr. Feller has also lowered this patient’s hairline on both sides where according to the patient the density is around 80 grafts/cm2.

Dr. Cole:  Norwood 3 Received 2000 FUE grafts. 11 Months Post Op. This patient was Norwood class 3 before his 2000 Grafts surgery on February, 2004 all over the front of his head. He was a virgin scalp and this was his first procedure. The density is 30-40 per square cm all the grafts were taken from his scalp donor area. His hairline was dropped about 2.5 inches down on his forehead. The most noticeable improvement was in the massive areas of complete baldness in the temple regions. He is extremely happy with the results and is considering a second procedure for increased fullness.

Dr. Arvind:  BHT Guy 5041 BHT with Dr Arvind 1 Month Update. “I had 5041 BHT all from my legs with Dr Arvind in New Delhi. I have shed the majority of my grafts and unfortunately the picture doesn’t show the full story. I have a large number of tiny hairs sprouting and I can feel stubble over most of my scalp when I rub my fingers lightly over it. The redness on my scalp is not noticeable to the naked eye, and from a short distance it looks as if I have a light rash on my legs. The upper calf and lower thigh areas have healed much quicker than other areas. …”

Dr. Arvind:  # of Grafts per Sq Cm, FUE vs Strip. According to Dr. Arvind, dense packing in the recipient site is more easily accomplished with FUE grafts than with Strip grafts. The reason is because there is much less tissue surrounding the actual FUE hair roots than in even well dissected strip grafts.

He is by far the worst repair case I have seen in person.  Dr. Cole had to deal with a head that has gone through 13 small strip surgeries of 50 grafts each, 3 scalp lifts that produced 3 huge scars down the center all the way to back, 4 scar revisions from ear to ear that caused even wider scarring, and last but not least, tattooing all over the head that eventually turned his scalp color to blue. We are showing the part where Dr. Cole grafted the ears and the neck area that had almost no hair.

Dr. Feller:  Dr Feller Contacts Dr Unger about Hair Transplant Follicular Protracting. Attaining the correct angle is not always an easy accomplishment in the execution of Follicular Unit Extraction. Even 5 degrees off center can result in partial or complete transection. Dr. Feller uses a standard electrolysis needles to facilitate acquisition of the TRUE and PROPER angle of the hair follicle relative to the scalp surface. He places an electrolysis needle into the target FU prior to punch scoring. By doing so he was able to ensure that not only was the correct angle attained, but was also able to get a reliable idea of the actual depth of that particular target FU.

Dr. Cole:  Repair Case – Strip Repair Case, Dr. Cole’s Patient.  This is a class 6 repair case.  The patient used to wear a hair piece. He had one session of mini-grafts placed into holes in 2003.  He could tell immediately that this procedure would yield an unnatural, pluggy result so he rapidly sought a repair solution.

Dr. Cole performed 3000 grafts from the front to the back. In a single procedure he has obtained excellent coverage in the front.  The rear of the scalp needs one more session (the back or crown almost always requires 2 to 3 times as much work to achieve the same degree of coverage). Most of the grafts were dense packed into the front.

Dr. Cole and his staff also needed to deal with big plugs and the results are showing a softer natural look. The patient can live a normal life without the hard maintenance of a hair piece and he is very excited about his 2nd procedure.

Dr. Arvind Poswal:  Hyper-acute Angle Placement for Hairline Restoration.  For some patients with extensive thinning, eg: a norwood 5 or 6, Dr.Arvind advocates the formation of recipient sites at a much more acute angle for such patients.  Instead of having the hair growing at 30 degrees to the scalp, they almost lie flat, i.e.,15-20 degrees).  According to Dr. Arvind Poswal, the rationale for such an acute angulation in hairline placement is that it makes the hair almost lie on the scalp leading to a greater degree of coverage than would be possible if the hair were, comparatively speaking, standing up.  Dr. Arvind Poswal thinks that hyperacute angulation is especially helpful in those with extensive hairloss and a limited donor supply.
