Well, I went to the eye doc on Monday and waited an hour past my appointment to be seen. My vision was checked once again and once again I passed with flying colors. That's one thing on me that keeps working. I guess so I can see all those wrinkles appearing easier. Argh!
Well, all she really did was examine me through her instruments at various angles, intensities and different lights. When she was finished she said that she really couldn't see anything, except that my lash line is a bit oily. Then she commented on the fact that I did seem to have less lashes than before when she saw me. Now this I couldn't believe. I never mentioned my lash loss six months ago when I saw her and I am SURE she did not pay any attention to my precious little "lashies". How she could make that comment is beyond me since she sees like a thousand patients a day. Looked like the whole City of New York was in her waiting room on Monday!
Anyway, she mentioned blepharitis and I had mentioned that I had read about it and about Rosacea being related to lash loss and she said that is definitely true and could be contributing to my lash loss. But she did state once again that she did not see much.
She then mentioned a topical ointment and I said "Erythromycin, right?" And she said there is something new called Ciloxan 0.3% ointment. She said to apply it twice a day to the lids (did she mean the lash line?) I think that she did. I asked her what about mascara. She said that would not be a good idea and maybe I would use it only once a day, at night. She said I would have to treat up to a month at least. I may try twice a day on weekends or when I get home from work during the day if it is early enough. And that I did not have to follow up until my next yearly eye exam.
Has anyone heard of this ointment? I looked it up in the PDR, RiteAid forgot to put in their little leaflet, and it says something about being an antibacterial medication, amongst many other things, which I am sure "Dr. Dawn" would understand. I was also give two refills.
I am still on the Doxycycline 100 mg capsules twice a day and have just one day under two weeks left. Haven't really noticed any significant difference yet. I just also reduced my Spironolactone down to 150 mgs, because my face is getting so dry. Not the kind of dry that the skin flakes or anything, just that the moisture seems to be zapped right out of the skin. I am drinking tons of water, but it does not seem to help (over a gallon a day). I know where every bathroom is in my neighborhood!
One thing I have noticed, and this seems really odd to me. I never had "long" lashes. I had a normal amount of density though. Now, although there are spaces between lashes, the ones that are there (especially on the top outer lids) seem VERY long to me. Has anyone experienced this phenominon? (wish there was spell check for posting)
The doctor said that perhaps I might have a slight problem and this MIGHT work. But I have to say that if it does not then between the antibiotics orally and the topical I will then be at a loss. She mentioned some people have an autoimmune problem which causes lash loss.
I just bought a new bottle of mascara. I remember to change it once a month by the first day of you know what. This way I know I am being sanitary.
She also gave me the moistened lash soaks, just two. So, I bought some at the drugstore and have used them for two nights now. I like that better than the baby shampoo. I found that drying.
