Dallas- Thanks so much for asking dr. vilet about hair loss and surgery. Unfortunately, my hair continues to fall out - ALOT! I've only been taking a prenatal vit w/iron, but may start adding more iron - slow fe worked before so I may try again. Please let me know how you are doing. Did you get your feritin results back? My hairloss started in Feb-Mar 2001. It started w/my bangs and temples getting very thin over 2-3months. Then I noticed that my hair had thinned all over. It was also drier than usual not sofy and silky and oily as it usually was. I noticed that most of the hairs falling out had a white bulb on the end (so I think I'm loosing hair from the root).
During this time I've also been tired. I used to sleep 7 hrs a night, almost like clockwork. Now I sleep at least 9hrs and even then I usually get a little tired/sleepy by midday. I've also been getting a lot of headaches lately and sometimes get a slightly sore throat.
I posted on the thyroid and TE forums and have been told to get my ferrin checked (which of course the 2 doc's I've seen so far have never mentioned). I'm wondering if anyone on the Anemia site has been having the same type of loss (from the root) and symptoms (tired, headaches, etc...)? I am going to an endocrinologist next week and will demand a ferrin test.
