Hi Marnie, I'm not trying to worry people by telling them that an iron test can be skewed while taking iron supplements. All I'm saying, is that in my own personal experience I truly believe that consuming supplements up until the day prior to my ferritin test may have given me the false hope that my level was at 107, while realistically it may have been at 18. Everyone can check for themselves. I used yahoo and typed in "ferritin test". A number of sites came up that suggested a recent blood transfusion as well as consuming iron supplements may affect your iron test. Many sites also suggest that drinking alcohol close to the time of your test may affect results. This is merely additional information, I don't know for sure if this correct. All I know is my own experience.

I would never shoot myself, I was totally kidding. This hair shedding problem has put a major damper on my life,but I actually see a big improvement in my hair shedding since I've been taking the iron. I do not know if my levels went up. I see my doctor in September and I'm sure he will check it then. He told me to stay on the iron for at least a year. You said your hemoglobin went up, what about your ferritin? I heard that once your levels go up, you still need to stay on the iron for at least another 3 months. I hope you are eating better. Back in High School I used to not eat all day and only eat dinner. It's so bad to do that. I am eating a lot better these days. High School was awhile ago, my 20 year reunion is this Friday!! Have you ever seen a nutritionist? It's just that eating right is so important. I was delerious the other night, so I emailed the Oprah show and told them they should do a show with iron deficiency. Maybe not the whole show, but the public should be informed of how iron deficiency can affect their bodies. I wish someone told me 10 years ago. It would have saved me many years of aggravation! Maybe if more women wite in, they would consider it.
Yes, I am VERY lucky to have such a wonderful family. My kids are my life and they make me very happy. I also have a wonderful husband,with a lot of patience. I would totally recommend marriage (and children!!!) to you, if you were ready and found the right person.
